Digital Occlusion and 4D Mandibular Dynamics in Implant Dentistry

The field of occlusion is the pure mathematics of dentistry. The stability and longevity of the bone, implant, and restoration is complex and intimately related to a stable static and dynamic occlusion. Since the establishment and recompilation of the original occlusal concepts established by Mohl & Zarb and the Implant Biomechanics and Implant occlusal schemes presented by Misch, very little has changed in this field until now. There are new digital devices created to facilitate occlusal evaluation, diagnosis, and the creation of the appropriate occlusal scheme. As conceptual as the field of occlusion can be, there are specific factors that need to be diagnosed during the examination and planning phase and modified as treatment is performed on our patients. This lecture is a review of some of the available clinical strategies and digital technologies that can be utilized to visualize and manage occlusion and occlusal disorders in Implant dentistry.

Objectives:

To identify occlusal disorders and imbalances that can be easily managed and corrected during the implant treatment period
To understand the utilization and implementation of Emerging digital technologies that can play a positive role in the creation, improvement and correction of the occlusal scheme
To provide a simple and basic check list to perform the exam, diagnosis and corrective occlusion treatment plan
To present simple treatment alternatives for therapy in patients with occlusion disorders and TMD related pathology
