Thermoviscous composites for effective use in the posterior region

Increasing depth of cure of individual increments has been a trend in composite development in recent years. These bulk fill composites can be used in a more time-saving manner and with greater application safety compared to the complex multi-layer technique.

However, the flowable bulk fill composites, which are popular with users, need an additional occlusal capping layer of a high-viscosity composite. A new approach is taken by the thermoviscous bulk fill composite VisCalor bulk, a composite material that is highly viscous at room and body temperature and is converted to a flowable consistency by heating in a composite oven or a special dispenser. In the heated phase, the material adapts optimally to the cavity walls and thus simplifies the application into the tooth defect. When VisCalor bulk comes into contact with the tooth, it reaches body temperature again within a short time and thus returns to a regular viscosity regaining sculptability. The material combines the low viscosity of a flowable composite during insertion with the sculptability of a packable composite. Since the entire cavity can be restored with the same material, time is saved and comfort is increased compared to combined systems of flowable and sculptable composites.
